Nah, you're not alone. I used to feel terrible because so many awesome friends would draw me art all the time but whenever I went to draw them a gift I procrastinated and procrastinated and everything I made looked awful in my eyes and I thought they'd think I wasn't trying enough and ughhh. ;___; I hope you find a solution that works for you!

I like opening commissions, because I'm excited to see the ideas people would like me to draw. But then I'm too happy about the requests and too reluctant to say no and close commissions again quickly enough, then I have to many on my waiting list because I think I might be able to do them quickly but of course, with life, work and everything I can't xD And then every day I can't finish a commission I feel awful. That's when I get my emotional migrane (then and while sketching out commissions). I think I really need to take just like one or two at a time, then it might actually stay enjoyable :XD: Commissions pull me out of my comfort zone often and I both love and hate them for it :D

Same here. It feels like I can do 100s of commissions, but then it feels so stressful to complete them all, even if it's just 3 commissions xD

Im on the same deal. I put a lot of attention to minor details and im affraid I wouldnt be able to make my time VS money worth it or that I would deliver art im not happy about. I been struggling with anxiety so putting a drawing out even for myself is difficult. You know, i think you should just be upfront that you will take a fair amount of time to deliver and just go for what the customer is happy about, not what you would be happy about then work on personal projects to ease your mind.

Yes, it's really strange. I have a lot of fun drawing gifts, because I'm not walled in by expectations of what it will look like. During a commission, if it's for a specific character then it's frustrating for me to get it working--it usually takes me several tries before something looks somewhat okay. (And even then it might still be trashed and redone haha)

yes, gifs are absolutely ok for me, it's a gift so you "just have to feel happy about it" because even if its looks messy, someone thought about you and that's already wonderfull enough :D

Exactly! You can't really do that with commissions, unless you state that they're experimental or sketchy. Even then, there's pressure--that's why I prefer people giving me a range of characters rather than one. That way if you try one character out and it doesn't work, you can go to the next one!

I'm in the same boat :U Commissions are extremely stressful (unless it happens to be for ARPG stuff where they get points regardless).

I haven't done commissions in ages because of this. One of the ways I used cut back stress as much as possible, was having lots of communication with customers and offering to show multiple steps through the comm, so they know what's up and so you can get input and such. More work, but I'd rather know about a mistake and be able to fix it before finishing.

Do you feel like an "incomplete artist"?
Like, you are not able to do what someone else ask so you're not a "good artist"?

MMMMM I rarely get down on myself about my art (I accepted my limitations a long time ago LOL), it's more being careful to screen what requests I get. I don't like turning people down for sure, but I'm not going to draw something if I don't think I can draw it satisfactorily. At the same time, I'll also not feel bad at all for that; some things I just don't feel comfortable charging money for :U

Nah, I'm the same. A big reason why I don't do commissions.
